5 Travel Destinations You Haven’t Considered
Words: Ev Petgrave
In need of a vacation? You should add these underrated cities to your list.
While places like Jamaica and Hawaii are tried and true tourist stops, every once in awhile it’s good to stray off the beaten path. Consider one—or all!—of the destinations below for a truly unique travel experience. And remember: The world is a huge place just waiting to be explored. No matter if you go to Hawaii or Ho Chi Minh City, the most important thing to do cultivate your own unique experience.
The land down under certainly provides top-notch travel experiences with beautiful beaches, wine regions, and penguins. (Who doesn’t love penguins?) Sydney is Australia’s largest city and is home to architectural feats such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Use Nomadic Matt’s Sydney Travel Guide to get the most out of the city for the least amount of money.
Gondola rides, authentic pho, and mountain hikes: There is much to see and do in the Southeast Asian country of Vietnam as Travel Noire’s list of seven must-see places in Vietnam shows.
Montserrat is one of the least traveled to Caribbean islands because of volcano eruptions in the ‘90s, but it provides a one-of-a-kind Caribbean experience. Have you ever seen a Black Irish person? Every year the Montserratians hold a weeklong celebration surrounding St. Patrick’s Day and the island’s Irish heritage. Montserrat is also home to black sand beaches and one the world’s most advanced volcano observatories. Have we piqued your interest? There’s no better guide on the web to Montserrat than their official website.
Panama City, Panama
There is an exhaustive list of things to do in this Central American country and most of them won’t break your budget. The capital, Panama City, is a bustling metropolis full of towering skyscrapers, while towns like Bocas Del Toro provide the small town, beach getaway you might be in search of.
Johannesburg, South Africa
What’s a travel list without mentioning the motherland? The continent is huge and boasts many diverse countries, so it was rather hard to name just one place to visit—but we did. Johannesburg (or Joburg as the locals call it) is a large metropolis reminiscent of New York City. The nightlife is intense and the city is full of culture and history, proving that Africa is more than just a place to go on a nice safari.
